Ryan Eisenman - Making Private Markets More Accessible

This week on Standard Deviations with Dr. Daniel Crosby, Dr. Crosby is joined by Ryan Eisenman. Ryan Eisenman is the co-founder and CEO of Arch, a technology platform modernizing how investors and advisors manage private market investments. He co-founded Arch in 2018 to solve the fragmented and manual processes associated with private investing, building a platform that centralizes reporting, documents, and data across alternative investments. Under Eisenman’s leadership, Arch has developed a smart, intuitive platform that consolidates K-1 collection, capital calls, distributions, and performance reporting into a single digital interface—eliminating the need to navigate dozens of third-party portals. Today, Arch supports hundreds of leading allocators—including single- and multi-family offices, RIAs, private investment firms, banks, and institutional investors—and tracks nearly $500 million in private market assets on its platform. Prior to founding Arch, Eisenman worked across a range of financial services and technology organizations, including Deloitte, Techstars, and Routier, where he focused on business development, operations, and strategy. Eisenman earned his bachelor’s degree in Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University, with minors in Economics and Corporate Strategy.

Tune in to hear:

  • What did Ryan see about the way people were managing private investments that made him think his company Arch needed to exist?

  • How does Ryan think the constant feedback and news around public markets affects investors and can the relative quiet of private markets give us a different experience from a behavioral perspective?

  • What can the longer time horizon of private markets teach us about patience, conviction, how to invest and delayed gratification?

  • For investors who rely exclusively on public markets, what sorts of exposure might they be missing from their portfolio? What role should private markets play in filling these potential gaps in exposure?

  • What are Ryan’s thoughts around who should have access to private markets?

  • What role can tech play in making private market investing more equitable?

  • Does the Arch diligence tool ever tell investors to run far away from certain investments?

  • Should the technique used to vet private companies differ in a meaningful way from the way investors and advisors vet public companies?

  • Do some of the constraints around investing in private companies (e.g. the project just beginning to break ground) lead to more optimal or suboptimal investor behavior?

  • What is Ryan’s prediction for the future of private markets?

  • What is something that someone has done for Ryan, or something that he has experienced, that has fundamentally changed how he thinks about showing up for the people around him?
